Eh.... Paying 4 dollars for another Bendis/Avengers floppy? Amazon.com to the rescue! Less than 24 dollars for a hardcover sounds nice if it gets good word of mouth. Better than commiting to another over priced/lesser paged monthly floppy.

I'll get this. It's Bendis and Bagley, I kind of have to. I love Bagley's art and overall I've enjoyed Bendis' work on all the Avengers books over the years (though lately he's been much more hit than miss). I do have to say though, do we really need yet another ongoing Avengers book? And do we really need it to be written by Bendis? I mean, 3 Bendis penned Avengers ongoings at once? Really? Whatever. Maybe by the time this comes out they'll end one of the other books, but I doubt it.

Why is Thor not in that picture? In any case, this was to be expected.

It's kind of stupid that he's not. I know they just "killed" him in Fear Itself, but did anyone really think he's dead or at least dead for good? They even say he'll be in the book in the article. Why bother cropping him out?

Agreed. That said though, if he doesn't show up, I think it's funny they have to put a book like this out in spite of having the Ultimate universe, the classic 616 books, and the Marvel Adventures line, showing how strong of a disconnect there is between the movies and comics. The cartoon has a stronger relation to the movie than any of the comics do, which makes it hard for new readers to jump on bard. And even with a comic that is dedicated to new readers umping on board, they still have a strong disconnect by not having Thor there. Again, I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't see what Marvel's plan is. It seems like one big mess. The very thing that is has hurt DC in the past, Marvel is doing so tenfold. It's mind-blowing. This mitigates some of the problems but seriously, they need to tell good stories with what they have rather than relying on vast crazy changes to drive their stories. This reliance on such is why they need to rely on events to make sales (that can't even get over 200,000 - prices are part of this but that's another discussion for another time). I feel like I should just copy and paste my remarks as far as Marvel goes. It's the same problem every time.

In any case, I still think they should reboot the whole Marvel universe. This way they can ignore canon like they already do but this time, have an excuse for it.

And if they plan on bringing Thor back, it would be nice if he was closer to the movie version in appearance and/or personality, which was a personable version of Thor. I feel they could fix the Dr. Blake issue by fusing his personalities with Thor's and voila! Movie-esque Thor.

Avengers Assemble #1

Wasn't all that into this. Not a fan of the Zodiac so maybe that's why. Plus I just didn't feel like there was a strong hook to the story. A lot of solid action though. Bagley was okay but he's done much better. I guess this was overly new reader friendly, which is what they're going for it seems.

I thought issue #1 was just bad. There is no reason for this book to exist other than to have the team from the movie. And it was clear that the Hulk was fighting that water guy and yet the military still thought they were partners? Really? And as good as Bendis is with dialogue, I don't think he writes Thor particularly well.

I really don't know if I'm going to check out issue #2.

Avengers Assemble #1

Didn't like it too much, which is kinda sad because I was pretty jazzed when it was announced. I suspect around the time that the Avengers flick comes out, I'll want a little extra Avengers reading material, but it won't be this.

Well, I actually didn't mind it but now I'm re-thinking my own view after reading all of you guys' comments. Not saying it was anything special but I don't feel it's any worse than the other 2 main Avengers books at the moment. However the thing I thought completely sucked was the speech at the start by the lead Zodiac guy - seriously, does anyone remember The Hood making almost the same speech just a couple of years ago?????? I could not believe what I was reading - this is that whole Hood thing all over again. Not impressed, Bendis.

And Bagley's art did seem a bit off at times.

Okay, then maybe I wasn't too impressed. And I must admit there is pretty much no reason for this comic's existence.

This was supposed to be in continuity, right? I think it would have been better if this was an out of continuity story where Bendis and Bagely could have just used the characters from the movie and maybe even used the movie costumes. It would have given them more to work with and maybe a wider audience in the long run.

I completely forgot to mention it, but yes that was an almost identical speech to the one The Hood gave. It really came across as lazy writing. I don't think I'm even going to bother with issue #2.

But I do think I have a good idea of who the main villain is. If I'm right then the speech balloons in the beginning should be a dead give away. This has me very interested considering Bendis has said this book is very relevant to what he will be doing post-Avengers.

Since i don't read any of the other Avengers books, and am a huge Bagley fan, i decided to give it a try. I am not blown away by it but will stick with it till it either gets cross over fever or Bagley leaves.

Thanos! His speech balloons always look jagged like that. And now with what happened in the Avengers movie, it would make perfect sense. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

After loving the movie so much, I really am hankering to read a comic starring the movie team. I can see now why it was a good idea to do a book with that team, even if it didn't really make sense in continuity. I kind of wish that they'd have done a book using the movie continuity, but that wasn't necessarily in continuity with the movie universe. What I mean is, using the movie as a template, but where the book wasn't actually part of the movie universe. Anyway, I didn't really dig the first issue, but I'm now strongly thinking about picking up the second and third issues.

Avengers Assemble #3

There was more action in this one issue than the last 12 months of New and Vanilla Avengers!!!!! I was going to drop this book but I must admit I'm kind of enjoying it. I'll get the next issue and decide from there.

I have to say I'm not really digging Bagley's art. I've never been a fan but I feel he's done better than this.

I've always been a Bagley fan, but yeah, the art seems a little rushed. Maybe cuz they wanted the book to coincide with the movie....

So I like the Gaurdians...but does it seem like they are being being pushed a little to much here. It sorta seems like they are being looked at as a more powerful team here...like the Avengers are scared of Thanos but now that GotG are here things will be ok. Couldn't Hulk, Thor, and IM alone wipe the floor with Thanos? Is he that powerful?

I am not crazy about the book, but I don't hate it either. I like it enough that I want to keep reading it. I just wish I knew when it took place. I have always been a stickler for continuity and I know I am in the minority with that, I just like to have some kind of order.

Still, it's a book with Rocket Raccoon and that brings a smile to my face.

Hulk busting out of the Iron Man armor, priceless.

Kelly Sue writing this book is a pretty much awesome. I love that she is taking a bit of the movie characterizations and interweaving them with the comic characterizations.
