I thought it was a quick read, it is longer, but once the 3rd act started I just finished it in one night, it took me less then a week.

Ooh! I'll get on that one next and we can all discuss. I'm very much a King fan. Speaking of Stephen King, anyone read the Dark Towers?

I try to read a book a week, but I always fall short. 2012 is my year! Currently into All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy, just finished Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling (Kelly from The Office) and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

I read the Dark Towers years ago but should still remember the major points.

I started The Gunslinger a few years back, but put it down about halfway through and never did get around to finishing it. One of these days...

I most recently finished the third book in the Kingdom Keepers series, Disney in Shadow. They're not the best written books, even when taking into consideration they're for kids, but it's hard to resist books set in Disney World.

That is magnificent, thanks.

I finished the 7th last month, after having read the previous 6 twice. I was sure he would kill off everyone I knew and loved, and I didn't know if I could handle it, but I ended up really appreciating how it ends.

Just finished up Robin Hobb's Assassin's Quest. I enjoyed it, though it wasn't as compelling as the previous two books in the Farseer Trilogy.

Finished Dan Abnett's Know No Fear, the newest book in the Horus Heresy series. It was a great read! It also made me actually care about the Ultramarines and their primarch Roboute Gulliman, which I never have before.

Completed Ship of Magic last night. I really dug it; it took some unexpected turns and left things in just enough ill-repair to leave me excited for the next in the series.

Recently finished Tarzan of the Apes. Burroughs' prose is dated, but I enjoyed the story enough that I was able to power through. It's not a great book, but it's good enough that I'll most likely continue to read more of the Tarzan series.

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon

It doesn't seem right to criticise a Pulitzer Prize winner but this is the 2nd book I've read by Chabon and found myself really struggling for the last third. In both cases it felt like the novel went too long and was padded out. That being said, I think anyone interested in the history of comics would really be interested in reading this. The main characters and the comics they create back during WWII are all fictional however the whole environment and a lot of other characters and events are either fully real or are so well realised that it gives you an amazing feel for how things must have been back then. It would have been an amazing time when characters such as Superman and Batman were first being created.

Anyway, despite some complaints, it's a fairly amazing book and I totally recommend it, as I said, to anyone interested in the historical side of the comic book industry.

The Imperial Cruise

I had to read this for a class. It's all about how Teddy Roosevelt and William Howard Taft's actions and secret dealings with China, Korea, the Philippines, and Japan laid the groundwork for Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor. It certainly did not paint Roosevelt in the best light. It was an interesting read to be sure.

Nine Dragons by Michael Connelly

I've kinda fallen behind on the Harry Bosch series in recent years, but I managed to read this one in about 3 days due to traveling and spending a lot of free time in the airport and on planes.

It's good to be back.

Bite by Richard Laymon. Really enjoyed this! It wan't a strait horror novel, but more of a survival story with some vampire elements thrown in.

And Another Thing... by Eoin Colfer

This was the official sixth book in Douglas Adams's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series and I thought it was really, really good. Great laughs all the way through, clever dialogue and a good story. I thought it also had a nice heart to it as well. It felt totally in the spirit of Douglas Adams and I really think Colfer did a great job.

I haven't recommended any good gay books in a while, so I'll do that now. :)

The Other Guy by Cary Attwell is one I just finished. It appears to be Attwell's debut novel, and it's actually a good read.

Book blurb:
Emory James is, by his own admission, not the type of person the adjective exciting would ever deign to touch with a ten-foot pole. Cautious, reserved and staid, however, all crowd around him like best friends. Still, he gets by -- or at least he gets by up until his fiancée dumps him at the altar. Out of spite, he takes a solo honeymoon to Thailand, where he can pretend to be someone better than himself for a little while. In meeting Nate, a fellow traveler, Emory slowly discovers how to stop pretending.

I'm recommending this because 1. It made me laugh out loud a couple of times, 2. It's a pretty honest, no-frills story, and 3. It is romantic without being lurid. There are no graphic sex scenes; rather the book focuses more on the friendship and eventual something more between Emory and Nate and never goes into the bedroom. It's also told from Emory's POV, so there's a fair amount of watching Emory coming to terms with this new chapter in his life. They're believable characters, with real responses to situations. True, it lacks the high-octane thrills of the Cut & Run series, or the I-need-a-cold-drink-after-reading-that of Hot Head, but it's a very good book. I heartily recommend it, and look forward to Attwell's next book.

Also, if any of you did pick up the Cut & Run series on my recommend, the eighth book, Touch & Geaux, comes out April 8th!
