‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Trailer: 10 Must-See Moments!

gotgbannerMarvel Studios released the first full trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy just after midnight on Wednesday following its premiere on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and oh yes, you will be singing “Hooked on a Feeling” from now until August 1st. OOKA CHAKA OOKA CHAKA OOKA OOKA OOKA CHAKA!

We at PoP! have gone through this first look at Marvel’s cosmic adventure with a fine-toothed comb to spotlight the 10 Must-See Moments we don’t want you to miss, PoP!ulation! Enjoy!

1.  American Idol (0:21)

Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation, The Lego Movie) takes the lead in this sci-fi actioner as Peter Quill, aka Starlord, and exhibits a sense of adventure and snark reminiscent of movie heroes from days gone by. Just don’t get that statue anywhere near Gamora, or you’ll have a bunch of murderous green rugrats running around!

2. Boldly Go (0:58)

Speaking of our favorite jade assassin, Zoe Saldana‘s Gamora is likely to turn many heads before they become detached from their respective bodies. If this prison intake sequence is any indication, Gamora is going to leave many broken hearts and broken skulls in her emerald wake.

3. Pint-sized Pipsqueaks  (1:03)

It seems Rocket Raccoon isn’t the only Marvel hero appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy not tall enough to ride the Tilt-a-whirl. Squint your eyes really hard and you might catch Paul Rudd making his first appearance on screen before 2015′s Ant-Man hits theaters!

4. Bert Macklin is on the Case  (1:23, 1:28)

While the Nova Corps processes Peter Quill, his vital statistics run across the screen, including an alias other than “Starlord”. Looks like Quill has been moonlighting as an FBI agent (1:23), and according to his known associates, is in deep with someone named “Janet Snakehole” (1:28).

5. SELFIE! (1:52)

Chris Pratt made an incredible transformation from tubby Andy Dwyer on Parks and Recreation to a chiseled matinee idol as Starlord in Guardians of the Galaxy. Even during the shoot, Pratt couldn’t stop himself from taking cell-pics of his washerboard abdominals.

6. #IAMSORRY (1:53)

James Gunn must’ve shot additional footage for Guardians in Los Angeles late in 2013, and he failed to notice that Shia LaBeouf‘s infamous apology to cartoonist Daniel Clowes made it into this action sequence.

Im-Sorry

7. Showcase of the Immortals (1:55)

Drax The Destroyer is the resident bruiser of the team, and we’ll see him fight epic hand-to-hand battles when Guardians opens on August 1st. SPOILER ALERT: Seems like Drax will reign victorious over 29 other aliens in an over-the-top battle royale for a spot on the grandest stage of them all. Sorry, Rocket Raccoon fans. The fur-faced underdog wasn’t even entered in the contest.

8. The Collector is so HOT Right Now (1:59)

Following a mid-credits surprise debut in Thor: The Dark World, fans are clamoring to know more about The Collector‘s devious plot, which will be featured more prominently in Guardians. I wonder if he has a piano key necktie in his collection?

9. Whatta Buncha Dinguses (2:06)

John C. Reilly‘s Nova Corps top-brass Rhomann Dey introduces us to the Guardians of the Galaxy in this trailer, which concludes with Peter Serafinowicz‘s (Shaun of the Dead) droll appraisal of the team as “a bunch of a-holes”. Well, buddy. You’re just a typical hunk. For your health!

10. Unusual Suspects (2:13)

As “Hooked on a Feeling” echoes in our brains from here to eternity, we’re left with this final money shot of the Guardians of the Galaxy shoulder to shoulder. Looks like that Nova Corps prison is getting a little crowded, however. Couldn’t they frame that gimp out of the shot?

Lol good stuff. Overall great trailer that accomplished what it set out to do. I heard a lot of buzz from non comic folks that were glad to get intros to the characters like this.
